The Queensland University of Technology unveiled a new queer lounge on campus. It's just one part of several initiatives at the university to be more inclusive of people who are diverse in gender and sexuality. But a closer look from 4ZZZ reporter Norma Hilton tells a different story.

Here is a summary of QUT's responses to our enquiry:

Inclusivity is a core institutional value at QUT. They are working with the Guild and Working Parties to ensure that every member of the university can achieve their full potential whether studying or working there. But they acknowledge there is more work to be done.

QUT’s LGBTIQA+ 2020-2022 Action Plan is in place to ensure they are inclusive and reflective of the existence and needs of LGBTIQA+ staff and students.

At the moment, QUT utilises the Griffith University ByStander training and has made recommendations for updates as provided by the Working Party. But QUT is looking into the development of its own training.

They are also currently updating online training which will be live from October 1 and will be compulsory for all staff.
