Vaccinating Crocodiles against West Nile Virus to save the crocodile industry

Queensland’s Far North is home to the saltwater crocodile and impressive apex predator in our ecosystem.

Almost wiped out by ‘human fear’ and hunting… after decades of conservation protection they are a success story in regaining their territory, however they again are threatened - this time by a virus.

4ZZZ’s Eliot Rifkin and Toni Pankaluic chatted with UQs Roy Hall a virologist who was on the crocodile vaccination team about strides in vaccinating our crocodiles from West Nile Virus to ensure the crocodile industry which is intertwined with indigenous livelihoods and economic development opportunities.
