Residents of Manus Island have blockaded entry into Australian-run immigration centres to protest what they alleged was untreated sewage running from the compounds onto their land.
Pakistani refugee Ezatullah Kakar stated the Australian government had been in negotiation with the locals regarding their complaints.
Iranian refugee and journalist Behrouz Boochani, also a Manus detainee, said the residents were “very angry that the dirty water is running into their houses” and causing them to be unwell.
