2013 through 2017 have recently been confirmed as Australia’s hottest, driest five years on record, with climate change activists calling for urgent action from the federal government.

According to analysis by The Climate Council, ‘more than 260 heat and low rainfall records’ were broken in the winter of 2017 alone, while seventeen of the eighteen hottest years ever recorded have occurred this century.

Climate Council CEO Amanda McKenzie warns ‘the window of opportunity to tackle climate change is rapidly closing’, urging the federal government to slash greenhouse gas pollution levels.
