South African jazz legend and anti-apartheid activist Hugh Masekela has died overnight, aged 78.
Widely regarded as the Father of South African Jazz Mr Masekela was a leading figure in the struggle against the white minority rule with his song Soweto Blue becoming synonymous with the movement.
His family released a statement says that he had passed away peacefully in Johannesburg after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer.
