Our banana supplies could be in jeopardy after a suspected third case of the banana disease, Panama, was found in far north Queensland, the region responsible for eighty percent of our banana supply.

A crop in the Tully Valley tested positive for the Panama tropical race 4, which rapidly kills cavendish banana plants.

The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries said further testing will be conducted to determine how wide spread the disease is, but warned this could take up to six weeks.
