An ancient jaw bone and stool tones found in a cave in Northern Israel has shown that modern humans left Africa 180,000 years ago.
Archaeologist at the University of Sydney, Peter Hiscock, says the fossil jaw and tools presented today in the journal Science challenges current ideas about how modern humans dispersed from Africa.
The fossils found also raises the possibility that modern humans could have dispersed to Europe much earlier.
