Torres Strait residents who evacuated their homes after floods on a far north Queensland island are demanding better defence from flooding.
Following a flood from combined heavy rain and high tides, 16 people were evacuated from Yam Island, where afterwards residents held a demonstration demanding the construction of a seawall.
Craig Crawford, Minister for Emergency Services, says those affected by flooding may be eligible for relief funding.
