Japan is facing a number of water quality issues ahead of the 2020 Olympics, with construction costs soaring to about $16 billion.
Several venues such as the canoeing and rowing venues have been hit with cases of E.coli bacteria levels twenty times higher than the Olympic guidelines.
Officers have blamed heavy rainfall which has led to runoff in the waterways, and also say they plan to install underwater screens which will help in examining water quality.
