Queensland scientists have discovered a possible way to alleviate alcoholism via a new drug which may reverse harmful effects of heavy drinking.

The new anxiety medication, Tandospirone, was found to undo the effects of a 15-week binge equivalent with two weeks of daily treatment through trials on mice, researchers at Queensland University of Technology say.

Japan and China are already making use of Tandospirone to treat depression and anxiety, with limited side effects reported.
