A Senate inquiry into the suitability of existing cyber-bullying offenses across state government laws will have a hearing in Canberra on Friday.

However a children’s advocacy group, the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, will give evidence at the hearing, stating any updates to the criminal codes should not disproportionately criminalise minors.

The foundation recommended new cyber-bullying laws should draw on the current workplace definition of bullying, applying to both youths and adults while including varying sentence boundaries.
