A man has been taken to hospital after he was injured when a bolt of lightning struck the ground near him in Esk, west of Brisbane as severe storms ripped through Ipswich, causing widespread blackouts on Thursday.
The man’s girlfriend believed that the the lightning struck the ground near him as he was taking out the washing before the storm hit, he was taken to Kilcoy hospital where he is now in a stable condition.
The severe thunderstorms also caused large hailstones to drop across the Ipswich region with golf ball-sized blocks coming down in Flinders view.
