A new study has revealed that orangutan numbers in Borneo dropped by approximately 150,000 between 1999 and 2015.
A scientist from Germany's Max Planck Institute, Maria Voigt, said the decline in population density was most severe in areas which have been deforested.
There are currently only around 111,000 orangutans left in the wild, meaning they are classified as ‘critically endangered’.
