Ordinary men and women have spoken out about the death threats, defamation and bullying that they have experienced as admins of Facebook local community groups.
Although most admins say running their local community group on Facebook is rewarding due to the helpful and charitable endeavours, some have been driven offline and others have had to create pseudonymous accounts due to the offensive and harassing posts.
Some of the members have taken aim at religious groups, cyclists, the LGBT community, and issues of politics and vaccinations, with discussions at times becoming so heated that police have been involved.
