Survivor advocacy groups have alleged that Australia’s universities are lagging behind when it comes to fostering student’s understanding of sexual assault and consent.
The claim arises from a recent survey that found many residential colleges at universities had implemented online consent and sexual assault prevention training within the last year, but only around a third of those programs involved a sexual assault support service.
Sharna Bremner from End Rape on Campus said that the amount of sexual assault support services engaged to provide training to students and staff at colleges is far below the level required to combat the volumes of sexual assault occurring on campus.
