The Malaysian Government has faced ridicule after using a barking rooster in an advertisement to promote the Year of the Dog.

The Malaysian trade ministry has since apologised for the advert, and claimed it was a technical error, however many people believed it could have been a result of a complicated view held by Malaysian Muslims that dogs are unclean animals.

Earlier this month it was reported businesses in the region were down playing canine symbols to avoid offending the Muslim majority, as a result many believe that the advert printed by the trade ministry was a misguided attempt to avoid a picture of a dog.
