Venezuela’s main opposition party said they won’t participate in snap legislative elections called by President Nicolas Maduro for April 22, the same day as presidential elections

The Democratic Unity movement has labelled the decision to move the elections forward by two years “fraudulent and illegitimate”, demanding the vote be held in the latter half of 2018 under the supervision of independent international observers.

Their decision to boycott means there is only one candidate challenging Maduro, little-known evangelical pastor Javier Bertucci.
