Springfield near Ipswich will next week test driverless electric shuttle buses, following trials in Canberra, Darwin and along the Esplanade at Mooloolaba.

Developed by French company EasyMile, the buses each cost $320,000, carry up to 12 people, can travel up to 45km/h, and run up to 14 hours after an 8 hour charge of their lithium-ion battery.

Ipswich City Council will test the mini-buses near the Orion Shopping Centre at Springfield from Monday next week, hoping that electric vehicle technologies can reduce accidents, emissions, and congestion.
