PhD Candidate and Scientist Julianne Farrell in Toowoomba has trained her black labrador, Ruby, to detect various types of insects and parasites.
The hound was initially purchased to combat processionary caterpillars, which can cause significant problems for racing horses.
After the venture was deemed too dangerous, Ruby is now learning to catch bed bugs, in an effort to reduce outbreaks in the accommodation industry.
