The M1 motorway has dropped speed limits by 10 kilometres in an attempt to improve road safety during the Commonwealth Games.
Transport Minister Mark Bailey said he wants people to be comfortable with the new speed limit well before the games begin.
There will be no grace period, and the Queensland Government warns drivers that there will be marked and unmarked police cars enforcing the rules. The speed limits will revert to their normal levels on April 17.
