A fossilized shark tooth has gone missing from its secret excavation site along the remote Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area.
The tooth once belonged to the Megalodon, an ancient shark species capable of growing to three times heavier than a tyrannosaurus rex.
Park and wildlife rangers say only a few key people knew the fossil’s exact location, and that it could have been taken for the black market or harmlessly removed by an amateur not aware of its heritage value.
