Many North Queensland farmers are struggling after recent heavy rains and flooding severely damaged their crops.

Last week in Abergowrie, north of Townsville, farmer Michael Waring woke to find his cane and sunflower crops underwater, however the grower said he was lucky and does not expect the water to severely impact his June harvest.

Herbert and Ingham Cane Growers manager Peter Sheedy said others were not so fortunate and many farmers are still counting the cost of the flooding event.
