Researchers into depression at the University of New South Wales have been forced to cancel ‘promising’ pilot trials of a Ketamine Nasal Spray after participants reported a temporary loss of fine motor skills and mild psychotic effects.

The anaesthetic drug had already been proven to alleviate depression when applied intravenously, but researchers were looking into a less invasive application method.

One of the participants was extremely optimistic going into the trial and said the drug had refreshed her desire to live.
