Australia’s first commercial crop of the taste bud altering miracle fruit, is now growing in far north Queensland.

The berry contains a glycoprotein called miraculin, which makes acidic, sour, or bitter foods taste sweet, and is helping cancer patients rid the metallic flavour which comes with chemotherapy.

Chris Beckwith and his partner Karen Pereira found the miracle fruit on their property in the Daintree Rainforest and are looking at getting it registered with the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
