Queensland and Swedish researchers have discovered a toxin from the marine bootlace worm, which could be used to kill cockroaches.
University of Queensland senior research fellow Dr Johan Rosengren says the toxin has had remarkable results when injected into insects and therefore can be used for the development of insecticides.
The bootlace worm is the world’s longest animal, stretching up to 55 metres in length.
