The Gold Coast City Council cancelled a plan to gather data off Commonwealth Games visitors who use the free WiFi after recent news concerning Facebook’s security.
Originally, the WiFi access would require visitors to login via their Facebook profiles, with Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate saying the Council would use the information to monitor where people came from.
However, since the recent revelations of Facebook's failure to protect the data of their users, the council is changing the Wifi login process.
