The Australian Taxation Office is cracking down on holiday home owners wrongly claiming tax deductions.

The ATO assistant tax commissioners Kath Anderson said too many holiday home owners were claiming deductions for properties that were not actually available for rent.

Ms Anderson said one man declared earning $27,000 income from a property yet claimed $760 thousand dollars  in deductions on a property that was only available for rent 13% of the year.
