Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has blasted Australia's churches for ‘indifference’ and ‘resistance’ in a letter about child sexual abuse.

Turnbull is trying to pressure the major Australian churches into circumventing the states and immediately join the national redress scheme for survivors of child sexual abuse.

So far only Victoria, New South Wales and the ACT have signed on to the Commonwealth scheme, which would provide up to $150,000 in compensation for 60,000 survivors of abuse in government and non-government institutions.
