A “marine heatwave” in the Tasman has scientists calling for the high temperatures to be documented as a “major climate event.”

Bureau of Meteorology climatologist, Dr Blair Trewin says the changes are a result of climate change and over Summer it was “exceptionally warm on both sides of the Tasman.”

The Climate Council say these findings are alarming and that Australia must “deeply cut our greenhouse gas pollution by continuing our transition to clean, affordable and reliable renewable energy and storage technologies.”
