- Roza Terenzi is about to put out a new EP titled Mwah through Amsterdam-based label Kalahari Oyster Cult. Terenzi, real name Katie Campbell, released her debut The Right Zone on Perth’s excellent Good Company Records in late 2017. After making music as Catlips in her hometown of Perth, Campbell relocated to Melbourne and has been busy as a producer and DJ ever since. Mwah is yet another stride in her step.

The titular track starts off with some drum machine, before a break is introduced, sliced and minced. Beatific chords come in with the kick, the proceedings' official beginning. A bleepy sequence percolates in and out (with vocal stabs!) before a bassline enters and swings about. This track has bounce. Gigi starts off with some tasteful bloops (which is always promising). A devastating kick and high hats compliment the synth part, before more drums come in. Dubby pad hits coalesce with spacy chords. Things shift and mutate, building nicely with considered use of breaks.

Rare High starts off with some bongos, followed by another one of those powerful kicks. This one really has that electro bounce that I love. An acidy synth line splutters until some housey chords come in. At the two-minute mark things really snap into gear and layers of spectral synth float to the end. EP closer Soft starts with smatterings of 808, before a lead synth line comes in (then matched with beautiful chords of course). For me it evokes the chirpness of 808 State or LFO. The bass slinks around while the track develops, its various elements coming in and out.

Campbell, has delivered the goods with this new Terenzi EP, all four tracks are solid. It has the qualities of classic house and techno, with a dash of UK influence. From one self-confessed “bleep” lover to another, I tip my hat in Tenezi’s general direction (south).
