Ireland will hold a referendum on May 25 to decide whether to change its strict abortion law.

Voters will be asked if they wish to repeal an amendment to the constitution inserted following a 1983 referendum which enshrined the equal right to life of the mother and her unborn child.

The most recent poll measured support for a 'Yes' vote at 56 per cent with 26 per cent opposed and 18 per cent undecided.

The country remains divided over the issue, as more than 10000 ‘pro life’ campaigners rallied in Dublin to oppose the referendum while ‘pro choice’ advocates are hopeful momentum from the successful gay marriage referendum in 2015 will have a flow on effect.
