French railway workers are striking against President Emmanuel Macron’s labour reforms in a display which will continue for the next three months and cause major delays for domestic and international services.

The union protesters say they are defending rail workers as well as the French public service against government law changes that will remove contracted employee benefits.

The strikes stand to be President Macron’s biggest challenge since his term began last May, with political analysts saying public opinion is on the line as tension-filled days are guaranteed in the coming months.
