Teachers are being dismissed at nearly three times the rate of previous years, for being inefficient at their jobs and in particular, for sexual misconduct.

In 2017, 11 teachers were dismissed or asked to resign after proven allegations of sexual misconduct with students and two teachers were dismissed for sexual misconduct not including students, one teacher being convicted of rape.

Professor of Education and Equity at the University of Sydney, Debra Hayes, said that these numbers are not only alarming but point out the bigger picture and problem, which is what aren’t we finding out.

Miss Hayes says “we know these figures are generally under reported, to have such a big teaching force of 94,000 and have 0.1 percent identified as engaging in sexual misconduct suggests that there is a reporting issue”.
