A recent survey on the Great Barrier Reef has found that synthetic microfibres from clothing make up almost seventy percent of the pollution found there.
The Australian Institute of Marine Science have analysed samples from Townsville and Cairns over the past two years, finding contamination at every site.
Research scientist Frederieke Kroon has stated they are still studying the effects of contamination from the fibres, which are produced when clothes are washed.
