The Zimbabwean government has sacked 16,000 nurses who have been engaged in strike actions since Monday.

The nurses strike follows a month of industrial actions by junior doctors agitating for better pay and more funding for health infrastructure.

The Zimbabwean government have defended their decision, stating that the striking health workers are acting with the encouragement of political opponents recalling many similar statements from the recently ended Mugabe regime which provided cover for the suppression of dissent and activist action during its period of rule.
