A Bundaberg butcher was told to destroy 500 kilos of meat after it was revealed the water in his suburb contained unsafe levels of PFAS chemicals.

The chemicals, known for their use in firefighting foams, were found in the Bundaberg water supply last Friday, with several local businesses recalling anything that may have been affected by contamination.

Queensland Health has stressed there are no proven health issues from PFAS chemicals, however little is known about their long term health effects.
