Rising electricity costs have hit many Australian small business hard, with many saying they may have to begin cutting down on staff members to shave expenses.

The Paper Cup Company and La Tosca Foods are some the small businesses to be hit the hardest by these costs, with the Paper Cup Company’s electricity costs jumping from 12 thousand dollars to 28 thousand dollars in just five months.

It’s predicted if nothing is done in the domestic gas market by 2019, electricity prices will continue to rise, but Denise Boyd from the Consumer Action Law Centre believes a way to alleviate this issue is having the Victorian Government move to make gas and power companies more transparent.
