Brisbane City Council has rejected banning plastic straws despite mounting pressure from the opposition and environmental groups.
Brisbane City Council field services chairman Peter Matic says there are no plans to phase out plastic straws, nor bottled water stating there needs to be statewide cooperation for the ban to be effective.
However, Brisbane City Council Labor opposition says more must be done to keep rubbish out of Moreton Bay and out of the stomachs of marine life.
