The Queensland government has agreed to work with the agriculture industry after contentious laws restricting farmers’ rights to clear vegetation from their properties passed in state parliament.
The Labor government pursued the controversial legislation to restrict land clearing after a relaxing of regulations under the previous Liberal government.
Natural Resources Minister Anthony Lynham says the new laws are necessary to protect the state’s resources, including the Great Barrier Reef, for future generations.
