A recent motor vehicle accident in Florida has resulted in the death of two 18 year olds after their Tesla Model S is reported to have crashed into a wall and caught fire.

Lithium-ion batteries found in electric cars can be highly flammable in the event of an accident, though Tesla claim their cars have a lower combustion rate than standard petrol alternatives.

The National Transportation Safety Board are currently staging an emergency investigation in response to the incident, stating the fire’s exact cause is still unknown.
