Scientists, activists and researchers urge the World Health Organisation to combat HTLV-1 while federal government is pushed to responsibly deal with the virus spread in central Australia.

According to the Guardian Australia, 45% of adults among five Aboriginal communities in Alice Springs have the virus, which is immensely higher than non-Indigenous Australians.

60 representatives from 26 countries have signed a letter, stating to the World Health Organisation the “global community has been slow to respond to the HTLV-1 preicmanet” and should find ways to put an end to this.
