Laws that would give the local government minister the power to sack or dismiss councils, individual councillors and mayors will be introduced to Queensland’s parliament next week.
The new bill would allow for automatic suspension with pay of any mayor or councillor with one of a series of corruption or integrity offences.
It will also give the minister the authority to sack or suspend a council, councillor or mayor where it is deemed in the public interest.
