The National Disability Insurance Scheme plan review system has left 8000 people waiting for over nine months to assess their disability care and funding.

A Commonwealth Ombudsman report deemed the system, "unwieldy", "unapproachable", and lacking "fairness and transparency" as it has received over 400 complaints about the review process in the past eighteen months.

These delays put NDIS recipients at risk of losing crucial services and in response the Ombudsman has made twenty recommendations to address issues which Federal Labor’s social services spokesperson says must be fixed.
