Around 4am, Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupted, a plume of ash reaching 9,100 metres and then raining down a nearby town.
This event took place after two weeks of lava flowing into neighbourhoods and destroying many homes.
Despite the eruption lasting for a few months, scientists state it was the most powerful so far.
