The Dreggs: Feel Alive (Single)(Independent)

- A sweet little tune from the South-East QLD indie-folk duo, Feel Alive moves you along its journey with the pace of a steam train. The Dreggs use simple instrumentation of acoustic guitar, bass, drums and sweet vocals to draw in the listener and then engage with touching lyrics and catchy melodies. A surprising tune for sure. (Peter Strasser)

Rebel Yell: NEXT EXIT (Single)(Rice is Nice)

- Latest cut from forthcoming album Hired Muscle NEXT EXIT is a relentless, visceral acid thumper that continues in Rebel Yell’s grand tradition of distorted progressive sounds that threaten to swallow you whole. And you really kind of want it to. (Liz Ansley)

Death Club 7: Cursed Crown (Single)(Independent)

- Hot on the heels of his album Forevernevernever released just two months ago, local banger factory/bedroom artist Death Club 7 reminds us all of his sovereignty via wonky, catchy verses that give way to a gigantic gritty cacophonous rave. And yes, it knocks really really hard live - DC7 just ended a banner weekend supporting fellow local artists Arig, LALKA & REBEL YELL. (Liz Ansley)

Animal House: No Mamma (Single)(Independent)

- Any song that repeats the word pizza over and over is destined to be great. This catchy, upbeat, indie tune truly delivers with ear-worm potential guitar riffs and super fun lyrics. A track that would best accompany a crazy dance party with you and your cat in your bedroom. (Jade Rodrigo)

The Dollar Bill Murrays: The Shape You Take (Single)(Valley Heat Records)

- New groove-driven track from local Brisbane quartet The Dollar Bill Murrays. The punchy bass matched with the lightness of the percussive accompaniment come together to build a cracker of a tune. Definitely going to have this track stuck in my head for a while. (Jade Rodrigo)

Australian

Nardean: Creatress (Fight Music)

- Built on scales from her Egyptian background and lo-fi bedroom beats, self-described “post hip hop” artist Nardean unleashed her debut EP Creatress last week, a conceptual release about taking responsibility, growing up in a strict cultural context, and the journey to create a life free of “layers of bullsh*t”. With her debut full-length on its way, it’s a promising taste of what’s to come. (Liz Ansley)

Tangents: Lake George (Single)(Temporary Residence Ltd.)

- Ambient new track from quintet Tangents. Straying away from my usual indie filled playlist, this experimental track plays with enchanting flurries and euphoric pulses. The tune titled, Lake George, is inspired by the lake that sits on the road between Sydney and Canberra. For many years it has been completely devoid of water. Breathtaking how Tangents can piece together a story by stringing together the right synths. (Jade Rodrigo)

Kobie Dee: Right Now (Single)(Independent)

- Hip hop artist and Gamilaroi man Kobie Dee quietly released his official debut and video last week, making it clear with this menacing introduction that he is not here to mess around. Threadbare trap-leaning production from Papertoy gives the rapper a formidable jumping-off point as he officially enters the scene, with Dee not so much diving in headfirst as executing a flawless backflip complete with knowing wink. (Liz Ansley)

New Venusians: Get Along (Cohenbeats Remix) (Single)(MGM / Fresh Selects)

- Cohenbeats churns out cool new remix of Australian band New Venusians' track Get Along. The repetitive piano line, caramel smooth vocals and harmonies, ringing synths and steady rhythmic section form a jazzy little number. Perfect best served with a classy glass of wine. (Jade Rodrigo)

HABITS:SELFIE (Single)(Independent)

- A gloriously gigantic and at times uncomfortable industrial reclamation of self, beauty, image and body in the form of one of the year’s catchiest hooks, SELFIE is a welcome return from Naarm-based experimental duo HABITS. Launching their Salty EP later this year, Mo and Mia's work continuously values self-expression above the listener's comfort and it's forever genuinely refreshing. Video carries a warning for flashing images/lights and may trigger those with photosensitivity. (Liz Ansley)

Vilde:Flash In The Pan (Single)(We Are Golden) - Coming across something sounding this unique is always a way to brighten ones day. Melbourne-born, Stockholm-based Vilde has managed to create a perpetually evolving electro-pop track that has such detail in the production that I'm not even sure I've fully grasped the number of sounds or instruments after having it on repeat. If you need music to stimulate yet worm its way into your ear, Flash In The Pan is the track for you. (Peter Strasser)

Crepes: Bicycle Man (Single)(Spunk! Records)

- Not sure where said Bicycle Man is going but I will be following close behind. The track's distinct guitar 'twang' sound will echo in any listener's head and remain stuck. The interesting harpsichord sounding instrumnt in the middle of the song chimes an ascending passage that totally makes the song a 10/10 for me. A keeper. (Jade Rodrigo)

Overseas

Ric Wilson: BANBA (Innovative Leisure / Inertia)

- Featuring personal favourite cut Sinner - as soon as the beat hit and the vocal harmonies graced my ears I was in. And that's from the first bar. A smooth hip-hop record about realising ones own faults marked by smooth and varied flow and a wide vocabulary, Ric Wilson delivers an easy groover with more depth than an olympic dive pool. Get this one on your Sunday morning hangover playlist ASAP. (Peter Strasser)
