The ACT Government is reclaiming stocks of flu vaccines from local GP clinics, as it tries to deal with a shortage that's sweeping the country.

ACT Health said a jump in demand has forced the re-balancing of stocks across the territory, to ensure the vaccine is accessible to the most vulnerable.

About 79,000 flu vaccinations have been administered this year in the ACT which is a large increase on the 57,000 that were given out for the entirety of 2017.
