Brisbane City Council has refused the application for a funeral parlour to be built in South Brisbane, because Lord Mayor Graham Quirk says it would be to the detriment of the local community.
More than 1100 people wrote letters objecting to build a funeral parlour on the grounds of St Martin’s church at Eight Mile Plains.
Residents of the area were concerned the funeral parlour would cause traffic issues, negatively impact on real estate values and be an inappropriate fit for the area.
