Olympian and world cup winning goalkeeper, Hope Solo, has spoken up about equality of pay in her pursuit, despite fears of being ostracised as a result.

A deal aimed for 2021 has been struck to see improved base-play and bigger bonuses for U.S women’s teams but it does not give the equality of outcome that Solo and others are after.

Solo and four other high profile players filed a complaint in 2016 to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in the U.S about the issue, with private support from other players who refused to make their stance public.
