After France fast-tracked the citizenship of the “spiderman” refugee who saved a child’s life, an Australian refugee has spoken out.

In 2014, Iranian refugee Homayon Hatami saved the life of a woman in the Geelong ocean, who attempted suicide.

Despite being awarded the Royal Humane Society of Australasia Medal for bravery and a Commendation for Brave Conduct from the Governor-General, Hatami is struggling, after eight years to receive permanent residency.

His last application for a “safe haven” visa has been denied.
