To celebrate the 3rd birthday of Curves and Claws: Variety and Burlesque show, C&C Producer/Burlesque Performer Miss Kitty Obsidian has put together a spectacular Nerdlesque show done in only a way that C&C knows best. If you haven’t already been, Curves and Claws: Variety and Burlesque shows generally feature all things burlesque as well as showcasing drag, circus and shibari acts. The Curves and Claws: Nerdlesque Special! May 2018 performance was on May 26th at The Back Room Brisbane and boy, was it a night to remember.
From Sailor Moon to Shrek, Dungeons & Dragons to everyone's favourite Baron Von Envy hosting the show as, of course, Batman, there really is something for everyone to enjoy. Pop culture characters really get everyone going and it’s always fun to spot your favourite characters up on stage being cheekier than usual. The audience even got to witness Trigger Happy's, 2018 National Winner at Burlesque Idol Australia, with an outstanding Shrek-themed performance that had everyone in the room going absolutely wild.
Whether you’re a super nerd or not, you’re bound to be entertained and dazzled with beautiful costumes, versatile props, bright lights and a little bit, okay a lot, of unwrapping along the way. The night was filled with laughter, excitement, screams, whistles and a whole heap of jokes made by the one and only Batman Baron! The performers were interactive with the audience, and I was a little nervous as to what would happen next… would one of them gyrate their hips in front of me? That’s the thing with Burlesque, it’s in your face and completely unashamed.
When it comes to Burlesque shows there’s often no real boundary, no wall, no barrier between the audience and the stage. It really is just one space and for the audience it can be fairly unpredictable, and I must say you are not 100% safe in your seat! Because the chances that a performer may come up to you and a spotlight may come on... are very high! But hey, that’s only half the fun.
While this space is different to what you are probably used to, don’t be afraid! Join in on this absolute party, where you can win cheeky raffle prizes or even compete as part of the Cosplay Competition where you can win based on the audience cheering loudest for you. You get to see something different in each act that comes on stage, it’s never-ending excitement, until the show finishes of course! It’s an experience, and for those of you that haven’t been already… what are you waiting for?
